International Opportunities

BCG is a truly global firm. Consequently, we greatly value international opportunities, both individually for professional development and collectively in the service of our clients.

International network

The BCG network is unparalleled in the range and diversity of experience its members represent. You will be able to enjoy and contribute to this powerful network, almost from day one, through your daily project work, our various practice areas, and common European and Nordic training sessions.

International staffing and international project teams

BCG Nordic operates as a single unified system, with cross-office staffing adapted to the needs of our clients and the development needs of our employees. In addition to Nordic staffing, you may also be staffed internationally on an individual project. These assignments typically last a few months.

Ambassador program

Under BCG’s Ambassador Program, we offer selected consultants in their second or third year the opportunity to work abroad in another BCG office for one year. Participants in the program tell us that their Ambassador experience stands out as one of the highlights of their time at BCG. Under the program, consultants from the Nordic offices have recently worked in our New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Sydney, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, and Moscow offices, among others.

Transfer program

To best meet the needs of individuals, BCG offers the possibility for certain employees to transfer to other offices. These moves can either be temporary, for a period of two to five years, or permanent.

Cross-Office Staffing
No matter how many BCG offices there are around the world, we remain united as one company. Our response to client needs is met with exceptional talent that may come from one office or many. Situations can periodically arise where client needs can best be met by drawing on talent from BCG offices around the world. Your expertise, experience, and know-how may offer you the chance to work on a short-term basis as part of an international team in a BCG office in another country.
International Programs for Associates and Consultants

Our Associate Abroad and Ambassador Programs are exciting opportunities offered to outstanding performers who have been with the company for the requisite period of time (9 to 12 months for associates; 12 to 24 months for consultants). If you are eligible for the program, you can nominate the offices in which you would like to work, and we will do our best to find a place for you in one of them.

As an Associate Abroad or Ambassador, you will be fully integrated into your host office, gaining valuable insights into the way business is done in a different environment, developing your international skills, experiencing new cultures, and building strong networks of BCG friends and colleagues from around the world.

Transfers Between Offices

There may come a time when you seek—for personal or business reasons—to transfer from one BCG office to another. This could involve a move to another office in the same country or to an office abroad. In these circumstances, we make every effort to accommodate your needs, consistent with the circumstances in the office to which you want to transfer and, of course, the needs of our clients and the business.

Client Ambassador

The Client Ambassador program offers you the chance to work at a BCG client, to understand what it is like “on the other side of the table.” Typically, the assignment lasts 9 to 12 months, and it could be inside or outside your home-office country. You can take on a range of roles in client businesses while at the same time maintaining your links with BCG colleagues and drawing on BCG for support.

Social Impact Secondments

BCG secondees have worked with organizations including the United Nations World Food Programme, Save the Children, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on projects focusing on hunger and global health. We have also participated in the World Economic Forum.

As a Social Impact Secondee, you typically spend 6 to 12 months working in a social-sector organization, allowing you to contribute in a meaningful way to vital humanitarian programs and giving nonprofit organizations the chance to fill important jobs for which they lack appropriately skilled personnel. You will be able to expand your own perspective while helping to meet tangible, critical goals for those most in need. As a Social Impact Secondee, you will maintain your links with BCG, no matter where in the world you are working.

Beyond the Social Impact Secondment Program, BCG will also help you find opportunities to work with other nonprofit organizations on a leave-of-absence basis.
